I have always had this strong interest in art and its creation. Whenever there is an opportunity to view the master’s, participation is my goal. My journey has taken me from painting, pottery and flat and fused glass I’m certain that I have arrived at my next challenge: Photography. Living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for more than thirty-five years and enjoying the art available to us in this community has been a joy. We are all so fortunate to live in a country where we can freely express ourselves. Attending high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, my thoughts were to become an architect or carpenter. Those thoughts stayed mindful for many years. After graduating from a 2-year school in electronics and serving in the US Navy on submarines for 6-years, I entered the ‘working world’. As technical writer for 3-years and computer software programmer for more than 25 years, I continued to dabble in the arts. Moving from oil/acrylic abstract painting and stained glass during the early ‘70’s to wheel thrown pottery, stoneware, raku and handbuilding clay work (14 years) has been part of my exciting journey. Heading into the ‘90’s my interest turned to glass: leaded, copper foil and fused glass. Recently (2000) I pursued torch worked glass and glass bead making. My interests took a turn during a trip to Italy in February 2003 when I was introduced to digital photography. I was never a 'camera' person. My wife was that person in our lives. The excitement of the photography continues daily as I use my camera to capture a moment. Each day gives me another chance to have fun. We have had a wonderful life together which includes a son and daughter who are both married and each have a lovely daughter for us to enjoy. In 2007 I retired from my home repair business (since 1996) to pursue full time free lance photography. My photography has been published in 2007 and 2008 in a North Carolina magazine that is published monthly --> Our State . I will continue to exhibit in galleries but, the publications industry and the opportunities available in that market are on my horizon for this year. And just around every corner, there’s another picture to be captured. |
